Kuwait rated among advanced global health coverage systems

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 14, (KUNA): The local health system in Kuwait has been listed among the advanced global coverage index, spokesman for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health, Dr Abdullah Al-Sanad said.

Marking World Health Coverage Day, Al-Sanad added in a press statement, the ministry’s keenness to set, develop and update the relevant strategies and programs out of its commitment to the sustainable development goals.

He explained that the local development plan includes related construction and development programs that promote comprehensive coverage, foremost of which is the prevention and response program for chronic non-communicable diseases and related risk factors.

He referred to the construction projects covering the six governorates of the country, programs and policies of quality, patient safety, performance development, and strengthening primary care capabilities as well as digital health programs, health insurance for retired citizens and health insurance for foreigners.

He stated that article no. 8 from the Sustainable development plan provides universal health coverage, including protection from financial risks, access to quality basic health care services, effective and affordable medicines and vaccines for all. The comprehensive health coverage reports issued in 2017 and 2019 have showed the advanced Kuwaiti local health system, which reflected how the Ministry fulfilled its obligations.
