KUWAIT CITY, Nov 20: Kuwait ranked 111th in the 2022 Bribery Risk Matrix with 53 percentage points, reports Al-Rai daily. The matrix was released by TRACE, a business association based in the United States of America that is keen on combating all forms of corruption in the fields of finance and business. It measures levels of bribery risks in finance and business based on four standard points, and the percentage point given to countries indicates the level of risks. Kuwait’s ranking has been declining over the last few years — 121st in 2019, 83rd in 2020 and 95th in 2021 out of 200 countries.
Although Kuwait’s ranking went down 16 notches in 2022 compared to the previous year, it remains under the ‘medium risk’ category. In the Arab world, Kuwait ranked fourth after Jordan, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE whose global rankings are 65th, 76th and 79th respectively. On the other hand, the top five countries are Norway, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland and Denmark; while the lowest five are Venezuela, Syria, Equatorial Guinea, Turkmenistan and North Korea.
