KUWAIT CITY, Jan 31: Minister of Information and Minister of Culture Dr. Hamad Ahmad Rouhaddeen, visited the Al-Seyassah and Arab Times offices, Sunday, reports Al- Seyassah daily. The minister was received by the Dean of Journalists and the Editor-in- Chief, Ahmed Al-Jarallah, and the Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Managing Director Suleiman Al-Jarallah. During the cordial conversation the two sides exchanged views on many media issues on the local arena and stressed that the print media has an important role to play to keep pace with current events and developments. Minister Rouhaddeen expressed his happiness at visiting the newspaper offices and said: “It gives me great pleasure to be present in one of the oldest Kuwaiti newspapers — Al- Seyassah newspaper — which was established in 1965, and I witnessed the renaissance of Kuwait and the stages of its construction and many events that were the best witness to it. I feel proud that this institution is still giving its best in its journalistic and media field, and plays an important part on the Kuwaiti press scene.”

He added, “I take the opportunity to send a message to the Kuwaiti newspapers, of which I am proud of their continuity despite the challenges they face in many fields that the information continues to create cultural, scientific and literary content that enriches the reader and creates a societal awareness in which the human being is the basis and main element of the renaissance.”

Rouhaddeen said the Kuwaiti press “is one of the manifestations of democracy that we are all proud of. The human being is a mainstay in the renaissance of the new Kuwait.” He stressed, “The Ministry of Information is keen to stand up to many legislative and legal updates that guarantee an atmosphere of freedom for the distinguished Kuwaiti press, and also ensure the practice of classy colloquialism, hoping that pens and newspapers will continue their approach established by the founding fathers in creating a free and responsible media that is a building factor not shovel for demolition.”

He went on to say: “I believe as a citizen and a responsible person that the press as a fourth authority can flourish and bear fruit only through a space of freedom disciplined by professional ethics that allows my fellow male and female journalists to work in an atmosphere guaranteed by personal and moral responsibility before legal responsibility.”
