Kuwait overhauling meteorological early warning systems

DGCA executing several ventures

KUWAIT CITY, March 22: Kuwait aviation authority has embarked on a package of projects for overhauling the meteorological forecast systems, an official said on Tuesday. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is executing several ventures namely installment of early warning systems for forecast sand storms, replacing monitoring devices, increasing mechanized monitors for services on the ground, in the agricultural sector and at sea, said Imad Al-Jalawi, the DGCA deputy director general in a statement to KUNA on Tuesday.

Marking the World Meteorological Day, falling on March 23, Al- Jalawi revealed that the authority planned establishment of a system for examining factors of high altitude skies, one for generating hydrogen, in addition to early warning systems for winds and lightening as well as a mobile meteorological system. Moreover, there will be researches and reports concerning climatic changes, their impact on the society and means of coping with these changes.

These projects serve the broad objectives of the UN sustainable development for boosting a high quality health environment, a sustainable living environment and diversified economy for the UN member states. Al-Jalawi has affirmed employment of the new systems will be effective to take measures ahead of forecast difficult weather conditions, thus lives may be saved. By Abuaziz Al-Mejren, (KUNA)
