KUWAIT CITY, Aug 9: Relevant authorities have begun reviewing the Cabinet’s directive for the Civil Service Commission to reassess the laws and regulations governing employee leave in government agencies.
The sources explained that this directive is intended to prevent the misuse of leave outside the legal and regulatory framework. Discussions on this issue are taking place across multiple government agencies.
One of the key measures under consideration is preventing the conversion of sick leave into regular leave and tightening the enforcement of rules related to all types of leave. The goal is to ensure that leave is used solely for its intended purpose and not exploited for other reasons. For instance, some employees convert their sick leave balance into regular leave after misusing it, allowing them to claim sick leave with full pay without deductions.
The review may also include sick leave, which can currently be obtained electronically without visiting a health center. This review will assess the effectiveness of this system, which was introduced in October of last year, to determine if it has met its intended goals.
The sources emphasized that the government's initiative aims to ensure optimal performance within government agencies, address any shortcomings in leave regulations, and maintain the regularity of work and services for the public.
