Kuwait keen to boost UN partnership

NEW YORK, Sept 19: Kuwait seeks to strengthen the strategic partnership with the United Nations and its diverse agencies, His Highness the Amir’s Representative, His Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al- Sabah has said. In statements upon arriving in New York to head Kuwait’s delegation at the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled stated that Kuwait will continue its humanitarian and political roles to promote peaceful settlement of all regional and international conflicts, fight terrorism, implement sustainable development goals and create a more peaceful, secure and prosperous world.

Approach
He stressed that Kuwait will continue with its balanced political approach in dealing with various regional and international issues. He hailed the UN effective role in overcoming challenges facing the world, particularly in the coronavirus era. His Highness the Prime Minister underlined the importance of cooperation among all world countries to tackle the repercussions of the pandemic. He lauded UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres efforts to promote global stability and greater cooperation among the states members.

His Highness Amir’s representative and his accompanied delegation were received at JFK’s airport by Kuwait’s Ambassador to the United States Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi, Consul General in New York Hamad Al Hazeem, and a number of Kuwaiti officials. The Middle East and South Asia group in the International Atomic Energy agency (IAEA) has nominated Kuwait, on behalf of the group to head IAEA 65th Annual Regular Session of the Agency’s General Conference, which will kick off Monday. This session is the first attended in person since the outbreak of coronavirus after the international conferences almost stopped to take place in Vienna, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Austria, and its permanent envoy to international organizations in Vienna Sadeq Marafi, said on Sunday.

Efforts
Heading this high-ranking event crowns Kuwait’s diplomatic efforts during the last decades, and takes in consideration its achievements during the membership of IAEA Board of Governors, Marafisaid. He stressed the importance of IAEA’s role in the world, praising the efforts it exerts to promote use of atomic energy for boosting peace in the world. This 6th five-day session will tackle IAEA programmes for 2022 in using atomic energy for peaceful matters. It will also work in boosting the Agency’s activities in the field of nuclear energy, radiation, peaceful transport and waste disposal, and ways to enhance the Agency’s activities in the fields of science and technology, nuclear security, nuclear safety and the application of safeguards.
