Hamed Al-Essa Center performs 100 kidney, and 16 liver transplants annually

Kuwait leads the Arab world in organ donation, and ranks second in the Middle East.

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 8: Kuwait has emerged as a leader in organ donation within the Arab world, ranking first in the region and second in the Middle East in the number of organ donors relative to its population, according to Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health.

During an appearance on Kuwait TV's "Concepts" program, Dr. Al-Sanad highlighted the achievements of the Hamed Al-Essa Center for Organ Transplantation, which performs approximately 100 kidney transplants and 16 liver transplants annually, in addition to pancreas transplants. He also noted the recent initiation of a heart transplant program in Kuwait, with successful transplants already conducted.

Dr. Al-Sanad further mentioned that Kuwait ranks second among the Gulf States in establishing a stem cell transplant program for children. He emphasized that rapid advancements in the field of organ transplantation necessitate ongoing legislative updates to keep pace with medical developments.
