KUWAIT CITY, Jan 27: Kuwait Handball Federation’s president and board members tendered their resignation, with the head coach and backroom staff sacked, after the national team failed to qualify for the IHF Men’s World Championships. An executive committee will determine whether to accept the resignation, according to a KHF statement.
The decision comes due to the “exit from the Asian qualifiers, despite the efforts made to achieve the desired goal to participate in world championships in an appropriate and anticipated manner,” said KHF in a statement. Kuwait were unsuccessful in their bid to make it to the global event, being one of three national sides to have dropped out in the second round of the 2022 Asian Men’s Handball Championship. After progressing from the group stage as runner-up, Kuwait had to battle it out amongst a total eight sides for only five automatic berths on offer, coming bottom in the closing group after a draw against Iraq and consecutive defeats by Iran and Bahrain.
