‘Both countries have ambitious schemes’

MUSCAT, March 7, (KUNA): Kuwait’s Assistant Undersecretary of the Information Ministry for Media Planning and Knowledge Development Mohammad Al-Awash stressed the importance of boosting cooperation with Oman in various files, particularly media and journalism.

Al-Awash, also President of the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU), made his remarks to KUNA Wednesday after meeting with Omani Information Minister Dr Abdulmunim Al- Hasani in Muscat. The two countries have a distinctive joint coordination in human resources development, he noted, pointing out media as a significant factor in bolstering the Kuwaiti-Omani historic ties.

Both countries have ambitious schemes to enhance exchanging media programs, particularly in radio, he said, noting the Omani minister commended the recent media facilitations provided by the Kuwaiti government to the Omani media team covering the 23rd edition of Arabian Gulf Cup Football Championship, held in Kuwait between Dec 22 and Jan 5, of which Oman won.

Media is an important tool in building brotherly and friendship ties with world people and nations, Al-Awash said, noting he has reviewed with Al- Hasani ASBU’s efforts and plans ahead of the Union’s forthcoming executive council meeting, salted for April 30 in Tunisia. The meeting also shed light on ASBU’s media training academy, which provides special programs to train Arab cadres in professional, technical, and engineering fields, said the Kuwaiti senior official. So far, some 15 seats have been allocated to train each member-country for free, he said, noting that such a complementary step stems from the Union’s faith in serving Arab human cadres.

Al-Awash also praised Oman’s continued support of ASBU, adding that such a backup refl ects the Sultanate’s keen interest in Arab Joint Action development.
