KUWAIT CITY, Aug 21: ‘From dream to reality’… this is how the story of farmer Eid Sari Al-Azmi can be described, reports Al-Rai daily. The staff of the daily visited the farm of Al-Azmi last year and witnessed how his vision was growing steadily with patience and confidence. Today, that dream became a reality with the first batch of ‘luxury Kuwaiti bananas’ reaching the markets and homes, marking the launch of the first commercial production of this fruit in Kuwait. The first harvest of Kuwaiti bananas entered the Farzat Al-Sulaibiya market on Wednesday — the official start of Al- Azmi’s commercial production. Expressing his pride, Al-Azmi said he is happy to achieve this unprecedented agricultural milestone after years of continuous trials and effort. Al-Azmi confirmed to the daily that production will be steady and plentiful in the coming period, with bananas available in the market daily. He added that he is currently establishing direct sales outlets for citizens and residents, sparing them the need to visit the central vegetable market.

He unveiled his plan to expand production from 300 to 500 boxes starting in October, to serve the local community and provide fresh produce at affordable prices. He emphasized the importance of giving local products priority in cooperative societies by allocating shelves or permitting direct purchases from farmers. “Such measures will benefit everyone by ensuring fresher produce at reasonable prices,” he explained. He also announced a new initiative to sell banana seedlings, enabling gardening enthusiasts to grow the fruit at home. He disclosed that the banana season extends from October to May each year, and that trees begin bearing fruit roughly three months after planting. This achievement follows the exclusive feature of the daily last year, which shed light on Al-Azmi’s pioneering experiment in banana cultivation in Kuwait—an effort that has now blossomed into fullscale commercial success.
