Kuwait extends congratulations to GCC states on 44th anniversary
Kuwait's Ministry of Foreign Affairs

KUWAIT CITY, May 25: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday extended congratulations to the leaders and peoples of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the Council’s establishment.

In an official statement, the ministry reaffirmed Kuwait’s firm commitment to continuing joint Gulf action, emphasizing solidarity and collective responsibility as key principles guiding the path toward a more integrated and influential future, both regionally and internationally.

The ministry noted that the GCC celebrates its 44th anniversary as a culmination of a unified Gulf political will. Since its founding in 1981, the Council has embodied a long-term strategic vision aimed at strengthening cooperation, enhancing integration among member states, and consolidating regional security and stability.

The statement underscored Kuwait’s historic role in the Council’s inception, especially as the country currently chairs the Council’s rotating presidency. It highlighted that the late Amir, His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah — may he rest in peace — first proposed the establishment of the GCC, driven by his belief in the Council’s pivotal role in fostering brotherhood and cooperation among Gulf nations.

Marking the anniversary, the ministry recalled the significant decisions made by the GCC leaders at the time of its founding. These decisions, the statement added, reflected wisdom and a deep awareness of the magnitude of regional challenges and risks. By laying solid foundations for constructive cooperation and coordinated action, the Council has achieved major strategic milestones and long-lasting gains throughout its journey.
