CAIRO, Aug 11: Kuwait claimed its first victory at the 22nd Arab Junior Basketball Championship, defeating Qatar 61-59 in a tightly contested clash at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex during the tournament’s third round.
The Blues bounced back from a heavy 41-78 defeat to Tunisia in their opener, improving their tally to 3 points. In contrast, Qatar suffered its second straight loss, leaving them with just 2 points.
The round also produced a major upset, as Algeria stunned host nation Egypt 76-74 in a dramatic encounter that required two overtime periods to decide.
Kuwait will return to the court today at 1:00 p.m. for its third match of the championship, facing Bahrain.
