Kuwait counting on Al-Harbi for turnaround in health sector: Al-Azb – ‘Health Minister possesses strong vision on reforms’

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 23: The country is counting on the Minister of Health Dr Jamal Al-Harbi for a turnaround in the health sector, especially as he is a medical practitioner and considered one of the most competent citizen, said the Minister of Justice Dr Faleh Al-Azb.

Speaking on whether or not the Health Minister tendered resignation, Dr Al-Azb said he was not aware of such development and did not have any official information in that regard. He noted Dr Al-Harbi possesses a strong vision on reform and administration.

Meanwhile, Dr Al-Harbi continued the acts of reform in his ministry by issuing some decisions to reshuffl e some senior officials and restructure the sectors. He removed supervision of the health regions and citizens service from the Office of the Undersecretary Dr Khalid Al-Sahlawi and went ahead to restructure the supervision of assistant undersecretaries on the sectors, affecting the medical specialization institutes and general committees.

The minister now leaves only four sectors under the Office of Undersecretary, which include Public Relations and Media, Overseas Medical Treatment, health offices abroad, and Legal Consultancy. Assistant Undersecretary for Legal Affairs now oversees five sectors, including the technical, primary health care, old people medical services, school health and health regions, while the Assistant Undersecretary for Medical Services now deals with the medical licenses, vocational health, medical enhancement and general medical council.

Also, the Assistant Undersecretary for Planning and Quality Control now takes charge of seven sectors, covering accreditation, quality control, training, development, National Health Information Center, medical development office, Regional Office for Patients Safety Assurance, information systems, planning and followup, while the minister now oversees citizens service sector directly.
