KUWAIT CITY, May 15: Kuwait Club and Burgan will meet for the third time in just one week when they face off today at 5:00 pm in the Federation Cup quarterfinals. The match will be held at the Federation Hall at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex. Later, at 7:00 pm, Qadsia will take on Al-Arabi in another high-stakes quarterfinal at the same venue.
The two sides previously met on May 9 in the Premier League playoff final, where Kuwait Club secured a dominant 3-0 victory. They repeated the same scoreline on May 13 to clinch their 16th Premier League title in club history.
The Federation Cup quarterfinals began yesterday with two matches: Al-Shabab vs. Al-Nasr and Kazma vs. Al-Sulaibikhat. Winners from both match days will advance to the semifinals, scheduled for Sunday. The tournament—and the 2024-2025 volleyball season—will conclude on May 20.
Kuwait Club is aiming to complete a treble this season, having already won the Super Cup and Premier League. Burgan, however, is determined to upset the "Sons of Kaifan" and deny them a third title while securing a place in the semifinals.
The second quarterfinal between Al-Arabi and Qadsia is equally significant. Al-Arabi, Super Cup runner-up and third-place finisher in the league, is hunting for its first title of the season. Qadsia, meanwhile, is looking to rescue a trophy-less campaign with a strong showing in the Federation Cup.
In a separate development, the Kuwait Volleyball Association announced a one-year suspension and a KD 1,500 fine for a Burgan player involved in incidents during the recent Premier League final against Kuwait Club.
