KUWAIT CITY, June 25: Informed sources revealed that the Public Authority for the Affairs of Persons with Disabilities has identified approximately 60 deceased individuals whose caregivers failed to notify the relevant authorities of their passing. As a result, their monthly disability allowances have been immediately suspended.
The discovery was made through routine data sharing between the Civil Information Authority and the Public Authority for Persons with Disabilities. The shared data included names of the deceased, which, upon review, revealed that monthly allowances were still being deposited into accounts belonging to these individuals—contrary to established regulations.
Authorities compiled a list of the affected individuals and determined the total amounts that had been disbursed. The cases span various categories of disability, from moderate to severe. The Ministry of Health has been contacted to confirm the issuance of death certificates and to align the official date of death with the final date of benefit entitlement. This will enable the Authority to calculate the amounts that must be recovered and pursue reimbursement from those who improperly received the funds.
Sources added that, according to standard procedures, any undue payments will be reclaimed—either as a lump sum for small amounts or in installments for larger sums. Legal action will be taken against those responsible for failing to report the deaths on time.
