KUWAIT CITY, July 17: A groundbreaking medical achievement has been accomplished in Kuwait, with a team of local surgeons successfully conducting a remote prostatectomy on a patient at the Sabah Al-Ahmad Kidney and Urology Center. The procedure, carried out with the aid of MEDBOT robotic technology, marks a significant milestone in the country’s adoption of advanced surgical practices.

The patient, a man in his 50s, underwent the partial removal of his prostate due to a localized cancerous tumor. What makes this operation extraordinary is that the procedure was remotely supervised by Dr. Saad Al-Dosari, a leading Kuwaiti consultant in kidney and urinary tract surgery, who was located in Strasbourg, France, over 5,000 kilometers away from the patient.

The details of the surgery were broadcast live to an audience of over 2,500 surgeons and specialists gathered at the World Congress of Robotic Surgery in Strasbourg. Dr. Al-Dosari led the procedure while attending the conference, which focuses on advancements in robotic surgery. Also present at the event was Kuwait’s Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi, who expressed his strong support for the medical team and the country’s evolving healthcare capabilities.

"This operation demonstrates the exceptional skill of Kuwaiti medical professionals, and highlights the importance of investing in cutting-edge technologies to enhance patient care," Minister Al-Awadhi stated during his remarks at the conference. "We are proud of the progress we’ve made and are committed to furthering Kuwait’s position as a leader in global healthcare."

This procedure represents the ninth time Dr. Al-Dosari and his team have used remote robotic surgery technology. Over the past six months, similar surgeries have been successfully carried out, including one performed remotely by Dr. Al-Dosari from Shanghai, China. The ongoing use of this technology underscores Kuwait’s dedication to pioneering new methods in surgery, while providing world-class care to its citizens.

The Ministry of Health emphasized that this milestone not only reflects the nation’s advancements in medical technology but also reaffirms the government’s commitment to providing a progressive environment for its healthcare professionals. As Kuwait continues to push the boundaries of medical innovation, this achievement serves as a testament to the country's ambition to excel in the global healthcare landscape.

Kuwait’s continued success with remote surgeries marks an exciting chapter in its healthcare development, offering a model for other countries to follow in the integration of robotic surgery for improved patient outcomes.
