KUWAIT CITY, July 15: The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) has announced a groundbreaking achievement by its Environmental and Life Sciences Research Center, which has secured a patent for a pioneering biological product aimed at bolstering Kuwait's poultry industry and ensuring food safety without resorting to antibiotics. In a press statement released today, Monday, KISR detailed that the research project, spearheaded by researcher Tahani Al-Suraye' and supported by a team including Dr. Hanan Al-Khalifa, Hamad Al-Mansour, Muhammad Kashk, Dr. Thanyan Al-Anizi, Anwar Al-Mutairi, Hanan Sultan, and Haya Al-Saleem, focuses on the use of probiotics.
The newly developed probiotic product consists of a bacteria blend in powder form, designed for incorporation into poultry feed or water. This innovation aims to promote food production sustainability and safety by offering a safe alternative to antibiotics in combating intestinal infections. The powder functions by optimizing microbial balance within poultry intestines, thereby enhancing digestive health, boosting meat and egg yields, combating salmonella, and fortifying poultry against adverse environmental conditions.
Experimental trials have demonstrated the product's efficacy in improving bird health, reducing mortality rates, increasing vital performance metrics, and enhancing meat quality and taste. KISR highlighted the strategic significance of this project, anticipating its substantial contribution to bolstering national food security and yielding economically viable outcomes upon commercial implementation.
Emphasizing the project's potential impact on Kuwait's poultry sector, KISR underscored its role in fostering local product innovation and reducing dependency on costly imported alternatives. This initiative marks a pivotal advancement in Kuwait's agricultural landscape, paving the way for sustainable growth and resilience in the domestic poultry industry.
