In his annual Throne Day speech, King Mohammed VI of Morocco stated: “I have never sought personal glory or recognition of a leading role, whether at the continental or international level. My sole concern has been fulfilling my duty to serve my people and enable all Moroccans to live in freedom and dignity.”
King Mohammed VI reaffirmed this principle, which the Kingdom has been upholding for 27 years, since his ascension to the throne. King Mohammed VI builds upon solid foundations laid during the reign of his grandfather, King Mohammed V, and further strengthened by his father, King Hassan II. He chose to live among his people, not in isolation at an ivory tower, because he understood from the outset that his country’s stability depends on communication among all of its components. He recognized that the foundation of social stability is a constantly evolving economy, achieved by forging a strong relationship between human capital, scientific expertise, financial strength and developmental laws. This fosters an economic base that transcends competitiveness and embraces individual and collective innovation.
Thanks to the efforts of King Mohammed VI over the past 27 years, Morocco has transformed into an African, Arab and international hub, not only in tourism, but also in the automotive industry and other sectors that contribute to a productive economy. This positions Morocco as the golden gateway of Africa and it serves as an exemplary Arab model. King Mohammed VI carries out his duties daily from all parts of the Kingdom.
This is why the Throne Day speech this year was delivered from Tetouan, or as it is known in Moroccan literature, ‘the White Dove’ -- a symbol of peace. This has political weight, signifying that Morocco is a kingdom of peace, adapting to regional and international developments with the spirit of cooperation and innovation. Based on this foundation, Morocco continues its path toward development, undeterred by any obstacles, determined to become a productive base that embraces the philosophy of building a prosperous future.
Therefore, when the King says in his speech “it is not just a matter of self-satisfaction, as it is a positive feeling of confidence and reassurance that gives us the strength and motivation to continue our efforts,” he is addressing everyone -- from the highest level of the executive branch to the humblest citizen. The message is one of perseverance and determination to achieve goals that serve the nation and its citizens.
