King Charles plans special roles for Archie and Lilibet in a solemn ceremonial event
King Charles hopes to reunite with Prince Harry and meet his grandchildren.

LONDON, June 28: Though King Charles remains estranged from Prince Harry, he still harbors hopes of reconciling with his son and finally meeting his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The monarch has yet to meet Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, in person, as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not returned to the UK since 2022.

Harry has made efforts to reconnect, reportedly expressing a desire for a reunion. However, royal aides are said to be wary, concerned over Harry’s ability to maintain confidentiality, which has made officials hesitant about any potential meeting.

According to The Telegraph, Charles—who is undergoing weekly cancer treatments—wishes to mend the family rift while there’s still time. Although the Palace maintains that the King’s health is stable, planning for his eventual funeral is already in motion, as is customary for major royal ceremonies. These events are often prepared years in advance in coordination with royal staff, the military, police, and church representatives.

Plans for Charles' funeral currently include the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at a senior level, with provisions also made for Archie and Lilibet to attend services at Westminster Abbey and St George’s Chapel in Windsor, if they choose to.

A source revealed that Prince Harry is expected to join his brother, the future King William, leading the formal processions through London. Additionally, Harry and Meghan would be invited to participate in the family vigil during the lying-in-state at Westminster Hall and take part in the funeral alongside other senior royals.

This update coincides with reports that Prince William does not intend to assign royal roles to Archie and Lilibet once he becomes king. However, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams clarified that William’s decision is not a slight against the children, but rather stems from the ongoing conflict with their father. Fitzwilliams noted that the children are not responsible for the familial tensions and that circumstances could change in the future. He also stated that, ultimately, the monarch has the authority to adjust royal titles, such as removing HRH status if necessary.
