‘Kids major cause of domestic fires’

KUWAIT CITY, June 16: Brigadier General Mohammad Al-Gharib, Director of Public Relations at the General Fire Force, announced the launch of a public awareness campaign aimed at enhancing preventive safety awareness across the community. In an exclusive statement to Al Anbaa, Al-Gharib emphasized that the initiative is part of efforts to ensure a “safe summer” free from accidents, to bolster public safety, and to promote a culture of prevention as a means to minimize fire hazards and other seasonal incidents. Al-Gharib underscored the importance of citizens and residents strictly following safety guidelines, both at home and in public spaces.

He urged people to take practical precautions such as avoiding the overloading of electrical outlets, inspecting electrical connections regularly, and disconnecting non-essential devices like exhaust fans, televisions, and computers before leaving the house. He also stressed the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, including timely oil changes and coolant checks, and warned against leaving flammable items such as lighters, chargers, power banks, and electronic devices inside vehicles during hot weather. Furthermore, he advised drivers to refrain from smoking in their vehicles to reduce fire risk. Brigadier Al-Gharib issued a special warning regarding children’s behavior, noting that unsupervised play near heat sources or electrical appliances—especially in kitchens—poses a significant fire hazard. He identified children’s mischief as a major cause of domestic fires and called on parents and guardians to maintain close supervision at all times. This campaign reflects the Fire Force’s ongoing commitment to public safety and its proactive approach to preventing accidents before they happen.
