KUWAIT CITY, June 6: Kuwait Cricket Club is the official governing body for the game of cricket in association with Public Authority of Sports, Olympic Committee of Kuwait and the International Cricket Council (ICC - the world’s governing body for cricket) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC - Operating under ICC) The much awaited 6 Nations T20 Cricket festival by Kuwait Cricket Board kicked off on June 2, at Sulaibiya cricket ground.
The official opening ceremony was held on June 3 at Sulaibiya Cricket Stadium in which ambassadors of several countries and other dignitaries attended. Kuwait Cricket Club President and Director of Asian Games at Olympic Council of Asia Haider Abbas Farman, Kuwait Cricket Club Director General Sajid Ashraf, General Secretary Emad Al Jassam, Board Member Mrs Awatif Al Qallaf, Mahmoud Bastaki and other guests attended the meeting. Haider Farman appreciated the hard efforts of Kuwait Cricket Club Executive Members and volunteers for hosting this all important tournament. “We are very proud that we have upgraded the facility of the ground to a better environment so that all can enjoy the game both players and spectators,” Farman said. Sajid Ashraf announced the prize money of the 6 Nations T20 Festival for winners as 1500 KWD, runners-up at 1000 KWD & 3rd Position at 500 KWD along with gift items for the winners. The matches will be held on weekdays and weekends. The 9-day festival kick started on Thursday, June 2 and the finals will be played on June 10. With a theme of #BringingCommunitiesTogether, the organisers are expecting all the different communities to come in good numbers to watch their respective nations XI in action.
The matches will be telecast live on Fancode which is India’s premier digital sports destination committed to giving all fans a highly personalized experience across sports content, commerce and statics with a subscriber base of 20 million and the live streaming will also be available on Kuwait Cricket Facebook and Youtube channels and on KCC official social media channels. Following matches were played on June 2:
Match 1: Sri Lanka XI Vs Afghanistan XI Afghanistan XI won the toss and elected to bat first. Afghanistan XI were bowled out for 73 runs in 18.4 overs with Khan Wali Said Karim scoring 19 runs in 15 balls. Sri Lanka XI bowlers were extremely disciplined in their bowling with skipper Aslam being the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets and giving away only 7 runs. Sri Lanka XI chased down the total in just 6.2 overs without losing a wicket with Ravija Sandhurawan scoring 60 runs in 26 balls at a strike rate of 230.77. Sri Lanka XI won by 10 wickets The Sri Lankan skipper Mohammed Aslam was awarded the Man of The Match for his splendid bowling performance with 4 wickets in 4 overs and one maiden
Match 2: Indian XI Vs Kuwait XI India XI won the toss and the skipper Usman Ghani elected to bat first. India XI scored 231 for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs with Diju Xavier scoring 71 runs in 45 balls and India XI skipper Usman contributed with a fiery innings of 42 runs in just 17 balls during the powerplay. Abdulrahman Al Kandari was the pick of the bowlers for Kuwait XI with 3 wickets in his 4 overs spell giving away 25 runs only. Chasing the target, the Kuwait XI batsman were bowled out for 59 runs in 13.2 overs with Muzammil Khalid Javed scoring 26 runs in 16 balls. Yasin Patel the left arm spinner was the pick of the bowlers for India XI by securing 3 wickets in his 4 overs spell and conceding only 8 runs. India XI won by 172 runs. Diju Xavier from India XI was awarded the Man Of The Match for his scintillating batting performance scoring 71 runs in 45 balls.
Match 3: Pakistan XI Vs Bangladesh XI Bangladesh XI won the toss and elected to bat first. Bangladesh XI were bowled out for mere 93 in 19.4 overs with Mohamed Bulbul Ahmed scoring 32 runs in 35 balls. Shahruk Quddus was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan XI with 3 wickets in a 3.4 overs spell giving away only 9 runs at an economy of 2.45. The Pakistan XI batsmen chased down the target in 11.1 overs with Adnan Idress scoring 22 runs in 10 balls. Mohammed Sumon was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh XI by claiming 3 wickets in 3 overs and conceding 22 runs only. Pakistan XI won by 6 wickets. Adnan Idress from Pakistan XI was awarded the Man Of The Match for his splendid all round performance with 2 wickets in 4 overs and scoring 22 runs in just 10 balls.
