KUWAIT CITY, Sept 7: Kazma Club team secured its first win in the Handball Premier League, defeating Sulaibikhat 35-30 in the second-round clash held at Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex. The same venue also hosted the 31-31 draw between Salmiya and Burgan.
Earlier, Arabi edged past Nasr 31-28, while Kuwait Club overcame Qadisia 28-22. After two rounds, the league standings are: Kuwait Club – 4 points, Kazma – 3, Arabi – 3, Burgan – 3, Salmiya – 2, Sulaibikhat – 1, while Qadsia and Nasr remain pointless after back-to-back defeats.
The third-round fixtures, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, will feature Kazma against Qadsia, Salmiya versus Kuwait Club, Sulaibikhat meeting Arabi, and Burgan facing Al-Nasr.
Meanwhile, Kuwait Club is racing against time to prepare for hosting the 40th Arab Championship for League and Cup Winners’ Clubs, set to take place at Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Indoor Complex from September 12 to 22.
The tournament draw placed the host Kuwait Club in Group A alongside Qatar’s Al-Ahli, Iraq’s Naft Al-Basra, and Kazma. Group B features Egypt’s Al-Ahli Bank, Iraq’s Al-Hashd, Qatar SC, Sulaibikhat, Shabab, and Syria’s Nawaeir.
In a separate development, Algeria recently kicked off the African Women’s Handball Championships for U-17 and U-19 categories, with 22 national teams taking part.
