LONDON, Aug 16: The Prince and Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton and Prince William, along with their three children, are planning to move into their new residence, Forest Lodge, by the end of the year as the family seeks a “fresh start” after a challenging period.
The family currently resides at Adelaide Cottage, a four-bedroom property on the Windsor estate. Their new home, Forest Lodge, is an eight-bedroom property that the couple considers their “forever home.” The move comes after what Prince William described as a “brutal” season in their lives, including Kate Middleton’s recent cancer diagnosis.
Forest Lodge, located within Windsor Great Park, will undergo minor internal and external renovations funded by the family. The couple will continue to maintain no live-in staff. Sources confirmed the family intends to remain at Forest Lodge even after Prince William ascends the throne.
A source close to the family told The Sun: “Windsor has become their home. Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter, leaving some of the more difficult memories behind. This is a move for the long-term. They see it as their forever home.”
The Wales family moved to Adelaide Cottage in 2022, shortly before Queen Elizabeth II passed away. Since then, they have faced a series of personal challenges, including medical issues affecting both the Princess of Wales and King Charles. Kate is now in remission, while the King’s treatment continues.
The Sun reported that the move and associated costs will be covered privately by the couple, with no additional expense to taxpayers. Renovation work at the 328-year-old Forest Lodge has already begun, including new doors, windows, floors, and ceiling repairs. Kate has been seen selecting furniture for the new home, which is estimated to be worth around $21.6 million (£16 million).
Forest Lodge is a three-story red brick property that includes several cottages, a large pond, and a tennis court. It is located just four miles from Adelaide Cottage, ensuring a short relocation for the family.
The move allows William and Kate to remain close to Lambrook, where their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—attend school, enabling them to balance their royal duties with hands-on parenting.
