Junkyard frontman David Roach dies at 59 after battle with cancer
Junkyard frontman David Roach, 59, passes away after battle with cancer.

LOS ANGELES, Aug 4: David Roach, the lead singer of the rock band Junkyard, has passed away at the age of 59. The band confirmed his death on Sunday, August 3, via an Instagram post.

In June, Roach had publicly revealed that he was diagnosed with an "aggressive" form of skin cancer in January. Despite his courageous battle against the illness, Roach died peacefully at home in the company of his wife, Jennifer. The band expressed their gratitude to fans for the overwhelming support during this difficult time.

"First off, we want to thank you all for the overwhelming support and love you’ve shown us during this incredibly challenging time," the band wrote in their tribute. "After a courageous battle with cancer, David passed away peacefully last night at home, in the loving arms of his wife."

Roach had been undergoing treatment for aggressive squamous cell carcinoma affecting his head, neck, and throat, according to a GoFundMe page set up for his medical expenses. His death comes just two weeks after he married Jennifer, with the couple tying the knot in a ceremony attended by fellow band members. A post shared on July 20 celebrated their wedding, with Junkyard writing, "Congratulations to the happy couple — Mr. and Mrs. David Patrick Roach ♠️❤️." The band also shared touching photos from the ceremony, including one of Roach in a wheelchair and another of him exchanging rings with his new wife at the altar.

In their tribute, Junkyard described Roach as “a gifted artist, performer, songwriter, and singer — but above all, a devoted father, husband, and brother.” They continued, “Our thoughts are with the entire Roach family and everyone who loved him.”

Roach had been with Junkyard since its formation in 1987. The band quickly gained recognition after signing with Geffen Records and releasing their self-titled album in 1989. However, after the band was dropped by the label in 1992, Junkyard disbanded. They reunited in 2000, continuing to perform and record together.

On June 27, Junkyard shared an emotional post with fans regarding Roach’s cancer diagnosis. “First off, we want to thank you all for the overwhelming support and love you’ve shown us during this incredibly challenging time,” the band wrote, adding that they were struggling to process the devastating news. The post revealed that Roach had been experiencing an "ongoing fever and cough" which led to his hospitalization, where doctors delivered the shattering diagnosis.

The band expressed the emotional toll the news had taken on them: “It’s devastating and life-altering, and we’re trying to navigate through the emotions and uncertainty that come with it.”

Roach’s bandmate, Chris Gates, shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, writing, “I loved him like a little brother. We had our ups and downs, but that never changed. My condolences to his brother and sisters… I'll miss playing music with him, but he'll always be an important part of me.”

David Roach’s legacy as a talented musician, performer, and beloved member of Junkyard will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, both personally and professionally.
