IWG members gather at Dar Mariam Museum for a unique cultural experience

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 21: The International Women’s Group – Kuwait (IWG) had the distinct honor of organizing an exclusive visit to Dar Mariam Museum, a newly established yet not officially inaugurated artistic space founded by Mr. Sami Mohammad, one of Kuwait’s most renowned sculptors and artists.

This exceptional occasion marked the museum’s first official group visit, offering members a unique opportunity to appreciate Mr. Mohammad’s visionary work and to immerse themselves in Kuwait’s rich artistic and cultural heritage. Mrs. Marika Kochlamazashvili, President of the International Women’s Group (IWG) and spouse of the Ambassador of Georgia, delivered a heartfelt message of appreciation during the presentation of a commemorative shield to the artist.

In her remarks, Mrs. Kochlamazashvili extended profound gratitude to the renowned artist and pioneer of Kuwaiti modern art, Mr. Sami Mohammad for his warm hospitality and for opening the doors of his artistic world to the group. The occasion was attended by spouses of ambassadors, distinguished IWG members, and H.E Sheikha AlAnoud Ibrahim Duaij Al Sabah, gathered in celebration of Kuwait’s rich and evolving artistic landscape.

The Contemporary Art Platform (CAP) played an important role in facilitating the group’s introduction to Mr. Sami Mohammad’s artistic legacy. Mrs. Ofelia Vardanyan CAP representative, provided valuable insights into the stories and inspirations behind the nearly 1,000 artworks displayed at the Dar Mariam Museum, enriching the visitors’ understanding of the artist’s creative journey. Ms. Vardanyan, praised Mr. Sami Mohammad for his outstanding contribution to Kuwait’s cultural heritage.

She lauded the profound themes of freedom, perseverance, human dignity and power of Kuwaiti women, that define his exceptional body of work and continue to inspire audiences across generations. Dedicated to the cherished memory of Mr. Mohammad’s late mother, Dar Mariam stands as a tribute to love, inspiration, and the enduring power of art.

IWG members described the visit as a deeply touching and enriching experience, offering a glimpse into the heart of Kuwaiti creativity and cultural expression. Through such initiatives, the International Women’s Group continues to strengthen cultural ties and promote friendship among women of the diplomatic and international communities in Kuwait, while also exposing its members to the many facets of Kuwait’s rich cultural heritage, traditions, and contemporary life.
