Iran's Supreme Security Council to Decide on Strait of Hormuz Closure

TEHRAN, June 22: Iran’s Supreme National Security Council will have the final say on a potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report by state-run Press TV on Sunday. This follows reports that Iran’s parliament has given initial approval to the measure.

The closure of the strait—a critical maritime chokepoint through which approximately 20% of the world's oil and gas shipments pass—has not yet been finalized. However, senior lawmaker and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Esmail Kosari stated in an interview with the Young Journalist Club that the move remains “on the agenda” and will be executed “whenever necessary.”
