KUWAIT CITY, June 12: In one of the largest drug bust operation in the country; officers from the Drug Control General Department (DCGD) at the Interior Ministry — led by Director of the department Brigadier General Mohammad Qabazard, and his assistant, Brigadier General Sheikh Hamad Al- Sabah — arrested an Iranian man in possession of 200 kilograms of shabu in his apartment in Al-Raqqa. The value of the confiscated drugs was estimated at KD1.5 million (about $5 million). The Iranian and the seized contraband were referred to the concerned authorities. In a press statement Thursday, the ministry confirmed that the Criminal Security Sector, represented by DCGD, seized a large quantity of shabu — approximately 200 kilograms — from an Iranian who intended to distribute it in the country. It revealed that the market value of the drugs exceeds KD1.5 million.

According to the ministry, this operation was carried out in compliance with the directives of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousuf to protect society from the scourge of drugs and dry up the sources of this criminal activity by arresting gangs involved in the smuggling and trafficking of narcotic substances. Initial investigations revealed that the accused rented two vehicles — one for distributing narcotics in various areas and the other as a warehouse to hide the substances in a dirt lot in Al-Raqqa. When the scope of investigations was expanded, it was uncovered that the accused was receiving instructions from an unidentified party to distribute narcotics. He and the seized items were referred to the competent authority for legal action. In this context, a security source pointed out that the narcotic substance — shabu ı is one of the most dangerous substances ravaging society; especially since it prompts users to commit violent crimes, thefts and domestic violence, even up to the point of murder.
