KUWAIT CITY, Oct 9: Kuwait is set for a stretch of hot daytime weather and moderate nights heading into the weekend, with dust expected Friday and Saturday due to strengthening northwesterly winds, the Meteorological Department announced Thursday.
Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Director of the Meteorological Department Dharar Al-Ali said the country is currently under the influence of a weak extension of the Indian monsoon depression, bringing with it a hot and humid air mass. This system is forecast to recede by Friday morning, allowing a high-pressure area from the northwest to move in, ushering in a relatively hot and dry air mass accompanied by light to moderate northwesterly winds.
These winds, Al-Ali noted, may at times stir up dust, especially over exposed areas, and cause sea waves to rise intermittently.
Thursday Forecast: Al-Ali said Thursday’s weather would remain hot and relatively humid in coastal areas, with northwesterly to southeasterly winds ranging between 8 and 30 km/h. The maximum temperature is expected between 37°C and 39°C. The sea will be light to moderate with wave heights between 1 and 3 feet.
Thursday night will bring hot to moderate conditions, still relatively humid along the coast, with variable northwesterly winds between 10 and 35 km/h. Minimum temperatures will range from 22°C to 24°C, with sea waves reaching 1 to 4 feet.
Friday Forecast: On Friday morning, conditions will remain hot with northwesterly winds strengthening to speeds between 12 and 50 km/h. Blowing dust is likely. Maximum temperatures are expected to range from 35°C to 37°C. Sea conditions will vary from light to moderate, with waves rising up to 6 feet at times.
By Friday evening, the weather will turn moderate, with winds maintaining speeds between 15 and 50 km/h, especially over coastal areas. Temperatures are forecast to drop to between 21°C and 23°C, and wave heights may reach 6 feet in some areas.
Saturday Forecast: Saturday's weather will stay hot with continued northwesterly winds at speeds of 15 to 50 km/h, raising the chance of dust, Al-Ali stated. Daytime temperatures will hover between 34°C and 36°C, and seas will remain light to moderate with occasional wave surges up to 6 feet.
Saturday night will bring moderate conditions, with northwesterly to variable winds easing slightly to speeds of 8 to 32 km/h. Minimum temperatures are expected between 19°C and 21°C, while wave heights will subside to 1 to 4 feet.
