LOS ANGELES, Jan 25: British actor Tom Hollander shared a humorous anecdote about the challenges he faces due to being almost namesake with the famous actor Tom Holland. During an appearance on NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” Hollander revealed a colossal mix-up where he mistakenly received Holland’s first seven-figure “Avengers” box office bonus.
Responding to Meyers, who acknowledged the similarity in their names, Hollander humorously expressed the common confusion, stating, “Yes. It’s been very difficult. ‘Cause, you know, I was here first. But he’s enormously famous.”
Despite the lack of physical resemblance, Hollander highlighted instances of mistaken identity, especially in non-visual contexts like interactions with utility companies. He amusingly recounted moments when people, upon hearing his name, assumed it was Tom Holland, leading to comical exchanges correcting them.
Describing encounters with excited yet disappointed children, Hollander shared, “My children are so excited to meet you.’ And I go, ‘Are they though?’”
The actor recalled a surprising incident during his brief tenure with the same agency as Tom Holland. Due to an accounting error, Hollander received an email claiming his first box-office bonus for “The Avengers,” a substantial seven-figure sum. He admitted feeling smug about his income until realizing the mistake, acknowledging the unpredictable nature of showbiz.
Tom Hollander concluded the conversation by discussing his role as Truman Capote in Hulu’s “Feud” anthology series, titled “Capote Vs. The Swans,” set to stream from January 31.
