KUWAIT CITY, Sept 18 : Secretary General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) Dr. Mohammad Al-Jassar has emphasized the importance of studying the columns discovered in Mubarakiya Market to determine their historical value. Al-Jassar made the statement when he and a delegation from NCCAL visited the fire incident site in the market to personally look into the progress of the ongoing renovation works in the area and to assess the recently discovered columns. He confirmed that the experts on historical buildings and antiquities will conduct a thorough assessment and the results will be announced later.
This visit is in line with the commitment of NCCAL to preserve Kuwait’s cultural heritage and cooperate with the concerned authorities in rebuilding the market in a manner that is consistent with its historical, cultural, and economic role; considering it is one of the country’s historical landmarks.
The delegation consisted of the representatives of Alghanim International and Gulf Consult; in addition to Assistant Secretary General of the Arts, Antiquities and Museums Sector Musaed Al-Zamel and some experts tasked to study the site and the discovered columns. On the other hand, Gulf Consult Chairperson Eng. Najla Al-Ghanim confirmed that work is underway to rebuild the fire-damaged area; stressing the project is proceeding as per the timetable, and that the discovery of the columns could enhance the artifacts market.(KUNA)
