Hiker protects dog from mountain lion attack in California

LOS ANGELES, Oct 28, (Agencies): A man sustained injuries while bravely defending his dog from a mountain lion during a hike in the Santa Monica Mountains, according to park officials.

This incident occurred in the Solstice Canyon area near Malibu. The man was protecting his leashed dog when the mountain lion attacked, resulting in a scratch and puncture wound to his hand, as reported by the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area on Facebook.

Notably, another young mountain lion was also present in the vicinity during this harrowing encounter.

Promptly, National Park Service rangers administered first aid to the injured man at the scene. Fortunately, the man’s loyal canine companion emerged from the incident unscathed.

Seth Riley, the wildlife branch chief for the National Park Service, characterized the man’s injuries as minor, essentially a scratch. He commended the man for his courage in protecting his dog and preventing the mountain lion from capturing it.
