Health Ministry updates drug lists to strengthen regulations

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 15: Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi has issued a ministerial decision to update the list of drugs and psychotropic substances and their legal classifications to regulate the pharmaceutical market and protect society from the risks of misusing these products. The decision stipulated the following:
Add Butonitazene to List No. 1 of Law No. 74/1983 on combating drugs and regulating their use and trade.
Add four substances, their salts, derivatives and decomposers to List No. 2 of Law No. 45/1987 on combating psychotropic substances and regulating their use and trade. These substances include Chloromethcathinone, Dipentylone, Fluorodischloroketamine and Gamma-Butyrolactone.
Add Bromazolam to List No. 4 of the same law based on the latest scientific and legislative recommendations. The ministry affirmed that it is keen on updating and reviewing the laws and regulations on drug control to achieve the highest standard of public health and safety.

This update is part of the ministry’s commitment to protect society from the dangers of narcotic and psychotropic substances and ascertain that all regulatory procedures keep pace with scientific and medical developments in the interest of the public. The ministry added this move is within the framework of its regulatory role in controlling the circulation of narcotic and psychotropic substances, mitigating the risks of misusing them and following up global developments in this regard to guarantee the safety of society and strengthen public protection under the best international practices and recommendations.
