742 units of blood donated in 'Together Forever - A Shield for the Homeland 10' campaign, says Ministry of Health.
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 4: The Ministry of Health's Blood Transfusion Services Department has announced that 742 units of blood were successfully collected during the "Together Forever - A Shield for the Homeland 10" blood donation campaign. The initiative, which took place under the patronage of Health Minister Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi, also marked the 35th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.
The campaign, held over three days, commemorated the sacrifices of the martyrs and highlighted the unity and resilience of Kuwaiti society. In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the department reported that the number of units collected this year surpassed last year’s total of 710, underscoring a growing awareness of the importance of blood donation within the community.
The campaign also saw an expansion in participation from various organizations, institutions, and individual donors, reflecting an increase in the collective sense of responsibility. The Ministry of Health expressed deep gratitude for the collaborative efforts of various state ministries and agencies, particularly the Ministries of Defense, Interior, and the National Guard, all of whom contributed to the campaign’s success.
Dr. Reem Al-Radwan, Director of the Blood Transfusion Services Department, highlighted the significance of the campaign, stating that the high turnout this year demonstrated the increasing public understanding of the vital role blood donation plays in saving lives. She emphasized that this success was made possible through the ministry's support and the cooperation of both official and community entities.
Al-Radwan also noted that blood donation is one of the noblest forms of voluntary giving, playing a crucial role in sustaining the country's blood reserves. She thanked Minister Al-Awadhi for his ongoing support and participation, which she said reflected the spirit of social and humanitarian responsibility.
Minister Al-Awadhi, who launched the campaign last Thursday, emphasized that the event was not just about donating blood but was also a tribute to Kuwait's martyrs, who gave their lives for the country. He described the campaign as a symbol of national unity, bringing together various governmental, military, civil, and community sectors in a collective effort to promote the values of loyalty, selflessness, and humanitarianism.
This year’s campaign marks the tenth consecutive edition and continues the Ministry of Health’s efforts to foster community engagement, raise awareness about the importance of blood donation, and ensure the availability of blood supplies year-round. The campaign’s ultimate goal is to instill a culture of voluntary blood donation, encouraging altruism and solidarity in support of those in need.
