NEW YORK, Oct 31, (Agencies): A family in New York had a harrowing experience following an evening of trick-or-treating when a child found himself facing the barrel of a weapon. Michael Yifan Wen, a 43-year-old resident of Manhasset, New York, was taken into custody and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and menacing after allegedly pointing a firearm at a 6-year-old on a Saturday night.

The unsettling incident occurred around 7:25 pm, as reported in a press release by the Nassau County Police Department. A 42-year-old mother had taken her daughter, two sons, and her nephew to a home in the 100 block of Rockcrest Road, believing it was the intended destination. The 10-year-old girl had planned to leave a Halloween goody bag at her friend's house, and her 6-year-old brother accompanied her.

"They rang the doorbell and left a goody bag full of candy for Halloween on the porch, before returning to the vehicle," the press release detailed.

However, the family soon realized they may have arrived at the wrong address. When they returned to the residence, the 6-year-old went to retrieve the bag of treats to take it to the correct home, according to the police.

At that moment, a man emerged from the house, opening the front door and reportedly pointing a black handgun at the young victim's head. The criminal complaint against Wen stated that he shouted, "Get off my property" at the boy.

Wen was arraigned the following Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead, New York, where he pleaded not guilty and was subsequently released. He has been ordered to return to court on November 13 for further proceedings.
