Gulf states unite to strengthen security against financial crimes
GCC Security Media Committee holds a meeting in Kuwait.

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 9:  Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries reaffirmed their commitment to combating organized crime and money laundering, citing the threats these crimes pose to national, regional, and international security, officials said Tuesday.

Brigadier Nasser Abu Salib, Director General of the Public Relations and Security Media Department at Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior, made the remarks while chairing the 20th meeting of the GCC Security Media Committee, hosted by Kuwait in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The meeting will continue until Thursday.

Abu Salib highlighted the importance of the event in producing practical recommendations to strengthen national and Gulf-wide security. He conveyed greetings from Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, wishing participants success in the meeting and its accompanying workshop.

The discussions at the meeting focus on strengthening Gulf media partnerships, unifying awareness campaigns, enhancing communication channels with the public, reviewing cooperation frameworks supporting the comprehensive Gulf strategy against money laundering, and addressing media aspects related to a tactical exercise hosted by Qatar in early 2026.

The Kuwaiti delegation is led by Colonel Othman Mohammed, with participation from Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Mohammed Al-Darmaki of the GCC General Secretariat, alongside representatives of security media departments from member states and officials and specialists from the GCC General Secretariat.

The committee’s work underscores the GCC’s ongoing efforts to combat economic and security threats posed by organized crime and financial crimes.
