KUWAIT CITY, Dec 17: Minister of Public Works, Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, emphasized the government’s commitment to mobilizing all available resources and providing necessary facilities to ensure the completion of the new "T2" airport project, aiming to have all services and facilities operational according to the scheduled timeline. This statement followed a coordination meeting where Minister Al-Mashaan reviewed the latest developments of the project and discussed the ongoing work. The meeting was attended by Sheikh Hamoud Al-Mubarak, Chairman of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, and representatives from the Ministry of Interior.
Al-Mashaan explained that the purpose of the meeting was to closely monitor the progress of the project, address any challenges, and work on overcoming them. She emphasized that the new airport is a key part of the country’s ambitious national development plans, contributing to the modernization of infrastructure in line with the vision for Kuwait 2035. She urged the swift completion of all tasks, ensuring they meet the required quality and efficiency standards while adhering to the approved technical specifications and timeline. Al-Mashaan also highlighted the importance of coordination with the Civil Aviation Authority to ensure smooth progress.
The new airport, she noted, will play a significant role in transforming Kuwait into a regional and global financial and commercial hub, attracting investment. She expressed her strong commitment to enhancing the country’s air transport infrastructure by adopting the best international standards in civil aviation.
The statement outlined the key components of Package 3, which complements the work of Packages 1 and 2. These include the food equipment building, the technical support and assistance center (which will house a security checkpoint for employees and goods), a waste disposal area, service tunnels in the airside, and aircraft corridors and parking areas.
The project contractor has already begun earthworks and has reached the required excavation levels for both the food equipment building and the tunnels, in line with the contract specifications. Obstacles in the project were addressed through cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Electricity and Water, and other relevant authorities. The Ministry also confirmed that materials, equipment, and specialized companies provided by the contractor are being approved in coordination with the contract consultant, the supervisory body within the Ministry, and other concerned government agencies.
