KUWAIT CITY, Oct 27: The 10th meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Strategic and Legislative Committee embodies the joint efforts and unified vision of Gulf states toward a more aware, safe, and sustainable meteorological and climate future, said Director General of Civil Aviation Duaij Al-Otaibi on Monday.

In a speech delivered at the meeting, hosted by Kuwait, Al-Otaibi said the gathering reflects a significant Gulf achievement marked by the adoption of a unified meteorological law for GCC countries. This, he noted, demonstrates the deep care and support of GCC leaders for a vital sector that directly impacts human security, environmental sustainability, and regional development.

Al-Otaibi described the unified law as a strategic milestone that strengthens legislative and regulatory integration, enhances institutional governance, and reinforces the foundations of joint Gulf cooperation to address climate challenges and rapid global changes.

He added that the committee’s mission includes implementing the provisions of the unified law, developing technical coordination mechanisms, standardizing operational practices, and improving the readiness of monitoring and early warning systems in line with the aspirations of GCC leadership.

Al-Otaibi highlighted that previous committee sessions discussed linking the regional weather radar network, integrating the earthquake monitoring network, and promoting joint cooperation using third-generation satellites to monitor weather conditions, air quality, and dust movement. These meetings also focused on expanding expertise exchange and data sharing among GCC members.

He noted that the current meeting will address key issues such as modernizing meteorological monitoring infrastructure, building comprehensive climate databases, advancing training and capacity development programs, and strengthening Gulf representation in international forums.

“These priorities require hard work and a unified vision to translate Gulf ambitions into tangible achievements,” Al-Otaibi said, commending the constructive cooperation among GCC states and expressing hope that the meeting will produce meaningful recommendations aligned with their shared goals.

For his part, Director of the Environment Department at the GCC General Secretariat, Saleh Al-Hoshan, affirmed that the meeting represents a new step toward enhancing coordination and integration in meteorological and climate efforts across the Gulf region.

Al-Hoshan said that the committee’s two-day discussions will cover a range of topics aimed at strengthening joint Gulf action and deepening cooperation among member states in the field of meteorology and climate resilience.
