LOS ANGELES, Oct 28, (Agencies): In a recent interview, Sharon Stone revealed a harrowing experience when, in 2001, she faced a brain hemorrhage, which doctors initially dismissed as a fabrication.

The Emmy-winning actress, now 65, narrated her terrifying ordeal. She recounted feeling an intense, lightning bolt-like pain in her head, leading to her swift hospitalization. Stone woke up on a gurney, completely disoriented, and was informed that she was being sent for brain surgery. Astonishingly, she hadn’t consented to this procedure; a doctor had decided to perform exploratory brain surgery without her knowledge.

Stone reflected, “What I learned through that experience is that in a medical setting, women often just aren’t heard, particularly when you don’t have a female doctor.” The medical staff initially overlooked her brain hemorrhage and dismissed her pain as fakery, failing to detect the severity of her condition.

However, Stone was fortunate to have her best friend advocate on her behalf. Eventually, after convincing the medical team, she received a second angiogram, which revealed the truth: she had been hemorrhaging into her brain’s subarachnoid pool, and her vertebral artery was ruptured. Stone emphasized, “I would have died if they had sent me home.”

Following her treatment, Stone’s journey to recovery was anything but easy. She grappled with difficulties like impaired walking and significant weight loss. Her brain hemorrhage had left her with a weakened right side of her face, severe issues with her left foot, and a severe stutter. Even in the early stages of her recovery, she experienced vision problems and memory loss.

Sharon Stone’s story serves as a stark reminder of the challenges that women can face in medical settings and the importance of advocacy and proper diagnosis in critical situations.
