Forgery Lands Expat Jail Time and Double Fine in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, July 14: The Court of Cassation, presided over by Judge Abdullah Jassim Al-Abdullah, upheld the Criminal Court’s ruling, which sentenced an Arab individual, who worked as a food and beverage cost controller at Kuwait Towers under the Tourism Enterprises Company, to seven years in prison with hard labor. The defendant was also dismissed from his position, fined KD 89,000, and ordered to return the embezzled amount along with an additional fine equal to twice its value. Investigations revealed that the employee embezzled approximately KD 29,000 by printing counterfeit tickets and selling them to visitors at Kuwait Towers, without depositing the proceeds into the state treasury. It was confirmed that the defendant abused his official position by designing and printing fake tickets identical to the official ones, which were then sold without being recorded as official revenue. The Public Prosecution charged him with embezzlement, forgery, and misappropriation of public funds, and had called for the maximum penalty.
