BOGOTÁ, Jun 16: The case of an American man detained in Colombia over allegations of suspected sexual abuse involving a minor has taken a new turn after preliminary forensic examinations found no evidence of sexual abuse, according to reports.
The 36-year-old American, identified as Grant Gail, was detained in Bogotá while he was in the country as part of a legal adoption process.
Authorities' investigation received new developments after forensic results reportedly ruled out signs consistent with sexual abuse. The case was also affected by the testimony of the seven-year-old boy involved, who denied being assaulted and told authorities that the adult was only attempting to calm him while they were on a balcony.
Despite the preliminary findings and the child's statement, Gail remains in the custody of Colombian authorities as legal proceedings continue.
Authorities are expected to review the forensic results and other evidence before determining the next steps in the case.
