KUWAIT CITY, Dec 12: The National Assembly will be holding sessions next Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss a variety of issues including the conflict-of-interest draft law as well as proposals and draft laws connected with the government program. The parliament would look into matters such as lifting parliamentary immunity of MP Majed Al-Mutairi. The conflict of interest law would be discussed during the upcoming sessions.

Based on the law 13, 2018 passed by parliament, “It is prohibited for a person subjected to obtain either material or moral benefit or any person mentioned in the previous clause to carry out any activity which is directly linked to his work in the ministry by himself or through the participation of others, or own a share in any activity or financial transaction with other party in which he is the main cause.” The government program for the 17th legislative term (2022-26) will be tabled during the upcoming sessions according to article 98 of the constitution. The forming of several committees would be discussed by parliament as well as a request by several MPs to establish a committee looking into the Caracal Eurocopter and Eurofighter deals.

MPs Adel Al-Damkhi, Muhammad Al-Mutair, Abdulkareem Al- Kandari, Abdullah Al-Anbaie and Hamad Al-Medlej have submitted a bill on amending Public Tenders Law number 49/2016 to include military construction projects in this law. The explanatory memorandum of the bill states that decree number 95/2017 stipulates the formation of a purchasing committee to oversee procedures for buying military equipment and implementing military construction projects but this has been proven inadequate taking into consideration the violations recorded by the State Audit Bureau (SAB) in the last five years.
