First Deputy Prime Minister’s statement clarifies everything, so it is important to understand it

OVER the past five weeks, Kuwait has witnessed a series of events that have dominated public discussion and raised multiple questions on different issues. These include reports of Iranian attacks on civilian facilities, attacks targeting Kuwait by Iraqi militias affiliated with Tehran, exposure of espionage and terrorist cells, and the financing of foreign terrorist organizations. Additional public questions have also been raised about the full resumption of operations at public facilities, the reopening of Kuwait International Airport, and decisions related to citizenship revocations, which have generated widespread debate, particularly due to limited responses from the relevant official authorities.

They preferred to work smart and silently so as not to stir up controversy regarding any issue and to prevent interpretations from going too far, especially in a society open to freedom of opinion and the proliferation of social media, including individuals who feign influence and pretend to have connections. Indeed, wars change people’s moods and create a state of caution. If this was the case previously, how much more so now that social media has spiraled out of control? Social media has taken up a large share of the attention of the relevant state authorities at a time when they most needed to focus on their responsibilities, including maintaining security, social stability, and the economy. Over the past five weeks, Kuwait has successfully navigated difficult challenges and managed to overcome the crisis with minimal losses. As always, the Kuwaiti people demonstrated resilience in confronting the aggression. Maintaining social stability is half the battle.

Nevertheless, many questions are still in need of answers, particularly regarding certain issues that demand immediate action. Among these issues was the discovery of terrorist cells. Opinions were divided, with one group advocating for postponing the investigation until the end of the war, and the other insisting on immediate action during this critical period. Regardless of the differing opinions, the state is fully aware of the sensitivity of the matter and knows exactly what it must do. Accordingly, the statement issued by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, was met with great relief. The statement provided definitive answers and clarified the situation. It addressed the questions that had been circulating and causing public concern.

Today, more fine details have been added to the new image of public affairs. Everyone must consider such details and facts in order not to repeat painful experiences, particularly those related to treason cases, which have left deep wounds in the heart of Kuwaiti society, wounds that require healing and recovery. It also necessitates a realignment of ranks behind the political leadership. The nation needs vigilance because the region is still unstable. This requires everyone, regardless of differing opinions, to stand united as one. The statement of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior inaugurates a new approach to addressing current developments. Therefore, what is required now is full commitment to the national interest.
