KUWAIT CITY, May 30: The Filipino Golfers Association in Kuwait (FGA-K) held its annual Independence Day golf tournament in commemoration of the 119th Philippine Independence Day at the Kuwait Golf and Country Club (KGCC) in Wafra.The 18-hole tournament was played in two sessions due to the scorching summer. The front 9 holes and the back 9 holes were played on May 19 and 26 respectively.Kenny Diaz bagged the Independence Day championship cup this year after submitting a net of even par 72, followed by Randy Gaborno as runner-up. Other winners were Joel Mauricio for nearest to pin and pitch and putt while Randy Orencia won the longest drive and chip and putt.Consolation prizes of free weekday games at Sahara Golf Club were also won by Allan Baduria, Gerry Labagnoy, Rayan Dumlao and Bien Dantes.FGA-K President Bong Gante and Amy Ikdal of KGCC awarded the winners with beautiful glass trophies and plaques while the rest brought home FGA-K mugs as souvenirs.A series of fun games were also played after the 9-holes tour capped by a sumptuous brunch at KGCC Cubhouse catered by Mario’s Restaurant of Fahaheel.The FGA-K is one of the most active Philippine sports organisations in Kuwait that has organised various charitable events to help raise funds for typhoon survivors and less fortunate compatriots in the Philippines.The group also holds a weekly golf clinic for beginners and other golf enthusiasts.
