KUWAIT CITY, Dec 10: According to informed sources, the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases on Tuesday was expected, as many people have lately failed to adhere to the health requirements for dealing with the virus, reports Al-Qabas daily.

They stressed the need for the public to cooperate with instructions of the Ministry of Health regarding the need to avoid contact and avoid leaving the house except for the most urgent necessity.

The sources affirmed that any increase in the number of infections during the current period is due to the gatherings at the headquarters of the candidates and members of the National Assembly last Saturday.

They indicated that the presence of one person infected with the virus in any location may cause for the virus to be transmitted to others around him, adding that the infected person may not show any symptoms that he is infected with the virus, but would cause the transmission of the infection to whoever comes in contact with him.

The sources expected a significant increase in COVID-19 cases in the coming period due to this electoral mixing.

Where is the spacing?

They highlighted a great dissatisfaction within the health circles over the overcrowding in the headquarters of those celebrating the results of the elections, the lack of wearing masks and maintaining physical and social distancing in most of the sites for candidates on the day of the election, which may contribute to a remarkable increase in the number of infections these days.

The sources stressed that low infection rates do not mean the epidemic has ended or receded, as the current period requires more cooperation with the calls of the health authorities.

Regarding the arrival of the Pfizer vaccine for COVID-19, the sources explained that the ministry is waiting for the first shipment to arrive within two weeks. As soon as it arrives, procedures for taking vaccines will begin. They will be first given to the medical staff and nursing bodies working at the Ministry of Health, to be followed by the elderly and those with special needs, as well as people with chronic diseases and risk factors.

Concerning allowing the establishment of spring camps, the sources indicated that this is pending further evaluation of the epidemiological situation of the COVID-19, especially after the end of the election day, adding that the coming days may witness increase in the infection rates or their stability and decrease.

They indicated that this will contribute to the issuance of a recommendation from the Ministry of Health on whether to allow or ban the set up of camps.
