KUWAIT CITY, Sept 5: The Ministry of Interior has carried out the death sentences issued against six individuals who were convicted of murder, including two Iranians who had murdered an elderly man in Salwa. The execution of a Kuwaiti woman, who was convicted of stabbing her friend to death eight years ago, was suspended after the victim’s mother granted a waiver just moments before the sentence was to be carried out. Just eight hours before the execution process began, Bader Al-Mutairi, who is known as “the wronged prisoner”, shared several intriguing details and described some tense moments via his social media account. Al-Mutairi stated that he received a call from the women’s prison informing him that the Kuwaiti citizen whose story he had previously shared would be executed on Thursday.
In response, he made several urgent humanitarian appeals, including a call to the lawyer of the victim’s family to plead for the suspension of the death sentence. He said, “Upon my arrival at Cairo Airport a short while ago (Wednesday evening), I received several calls from people in the women’s prison notifying me that the Kuwaiti woman will be executed. She kept saying, “I beg you, please tell Bader Al-Mutairi not to forsake me,” as she was kept in isolation before her execution. I asked, “What can I do? To be honest, my whole body was shaking. I called several numbers until I reached the lawyer representing the victim’s family, to request negotiations for a postponement of the execution and to allow more time.
During previous negotiations to waive the sentence, the victim’s family had demanded KD 7 million in blood money, but it was a sum that the perpetrator’s family could not afford. After several attempts, an agreement was reached for a settlement of KD 1 million in exchange for the waiver. However, the family later reversed their decision and demanded KD 7 million once again. After several calls with the family and various parties, the victim’s mother agreed to submit the waiver for KD 1 million. She went to the Central Prison in the evening, just a few hours before the scheduled execution, and formally declared her waiver.”
Al-Mutairi said the authority to halt the execution lies solely with the Attorney General. He praised the Attorney General’s office and the Department of Correctional Institutions for their compassionate handling of such cases. In the video he published, he expressed hope for the swift commutation of the sentence. Al-Mutairi highlighted his active involvement in humanitarian issues, adding that he had previously detailed the case in an earlier video. In a related context, security sources confirmed that the Ministry of Interior suspended the execution of the death sentence for the Kuwaiti woman after the victim’s family submitted a waiver.
They said the death sentence was intended to be carried out for seven individuals but it was carried out for six of the individuals, as the Kuwaiti woman narrowly escaped the gallows just moments before the execution. The case involving her dates back to 2016, when she fatally stabbed her friend during a heated argument and in a moment of intense anger and rage. The sources revealed that she is a divorced woman with children.
