Exciting Showdown: IDAK’s Badminton, TT Teams Go Head-to-Head

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 24: A thrilling sporting spectacle was on display at the IDAK-KDD’s Badminton and Table Tennis Championship 2023, held at Bayan High School, Hawally, Kuwait. The two teams Mighty Mustangs (MM), led by Dr Noufal (Men) and Dr Amrita (Women) and Power Panthers (PP), led by Dr Mahesh (Men) and Dr Sushma (Women), went head-to-head in the high-stakes championship match. The competition promised to be fierce, as players from both teams have been training rigorously in preparation for this event. Both teams boast exceptional talent and offered all the IDAK sports enthusiasts with a unique opportunity to witness the fusion of two exciting racket sports under one roof. IDAK President, Dr. Thomas Thomas inaugurated the event.

The matches were officiated by the match referee Dr. Kannam Shyam, Physical Education Teacher, ICSK, Kuwait. Mr. Anand Harith, Business Systems Manager of KDD was the Chief Guest for the event and Mr Sreeraj from Al Mullah Exchange was the Guest of Honor. The first match was the Women’s Singles, between MM (Green) represented by Dr. Aastha and PP (Red) represented by Dr Sharon. Dr Sharon won the match with a final score of 30-5.

The second match was the Men’s Doubles (I), between Dr. Jitendra and Dr. Rahul from MM and Mr. Nithin and Mr. Melbin from PP. Team MM proved to be superior and had a easy win over PP, with the final score of 30-10. MM reigned supreme in the second Men’s Doubles match as well, where Dr Renjith and Dr Noufal from MM won a fiercely fought battle with Dr Ashwin and Mr Sharon from PP (30-22). PP’s came back strongly by winning the 50+ Men’s Doubles (30-26), PP represented by Dr Thomas/ Dr Bobby and MM represented by Dr John/Dr Joju. It was a great spectacle to watch the teams’ camaraderie and teamwork come to life. Each point scored was cheered on by the spectators which added an extra layer of excitement to the games.

PP continued their winning streak by defeating MM in the Women’s Doubles, where the combo of Dr Prashanthy/Dr Ranjana (PP) defeated Dr Jolly/ Dr Ranjitha, 30-20. PP secured their overall Badminton championship by winning the Mixed Doubles, Dr. Mahesh/Sushama of PP beat Dr. Sanjay/Dr Neethu of MM. As expected the matches were filled with fast-paced rallies and heartstopping moments on the court. The overall badminton championship team score was 4-2 in favor of PP. The Table-Tennis matches were next. The first match was the Men’s singles, which was won by Dr Jacob from MM defeating Mr. Melbin from PP (11-2; 11-3). In the Women’s singles match, Ms Sairah from MM defeated Dr Anjana from PP (11- 1; 11-1).

In was followed by a tightly fought battle in the Men’s Doubles between Dr Rajesh/Dr Rino(MM) and Dr Ashwin/ Mr Nithin (PP). MM won the first set (11-6) and the PP came back strong in the second set by winning it (12-10). In the decisive final set, MM held their nerves and won the final set (11-5). Dr Prarvathy/ Dr Sharon form PP won the Women’s doubles by defeating Dr Ranjitha/Dr Shashikala from MM (11- 9; 11-7). PP were the winners in the Mixed Doubles as well, being represented by Dr Bobby/Dr Parvathy defeating Dr Rupesh/ Dr Shashikala from MM (11-7;11-4).

MM were declared with overall Tabletennis champions winning 3 of the 5 matches. The best player for the badminton match was Dr Thomas (Men) and Dr Ranjana (Women). The best player of table-tennis was Dr Rajesh (Men) and Ms. Sairah (Women). Mr Anand (KDD) and Mr Sreeraj (Al Mulla) gave the prizes to both the winners and runners up team, trophies to best performers in each category. The sports committee headed by Dr. Anjana C Nair, under the guidance of Dr Rahul Puthalath conducted several interactive activities and contests to keep the children engaged throughout the event. Prizes, trophies were given at the end of the event to all the junior participants which made it an unforgettable experience for everyone who attended the event. Dr Thomas, President of IDAK in his concluding remarks said, “We’ve all been eagerly awaiting this event and both the teams were ready to give it their all. Our members are our driving force, and we hope to put on a grand show.” The whole IDAK Executive Committee thank KDD and AlMulla for sponsoring the event. At the end of the 4th sports event for the IDAK-KDD Sports Championship 2022-23, Power Panthers are still at the top in the points tally with 74 points, closely followed by Mighty Mustangs with 62 points.
