KUWAIT CITY, July 19: Brigadier Bader Al-Kaddam, Director of the Fire and Marine Rescue Department at the Kuwait Fire Force (KFF), emphasized the unwavering dedication and readiness of marine rescuers who work tirelessly under challenging conditions to safeguard lives and property.
Speaking to KUNA on Saturday, Brigadier Al-Kaddam highlighted that since its establishment in 1998, the Marine Rescue Department has seen significant advancements in its capabilities and has solidified its crucial role in responding to maritime emergencies, saving lives, and protecting Kuwait’s marine environment.
He described marine rescue operations as among the most hazardous, requiring intervention in unpredictable and volatile conditions. “These missions demand highly skilled personnel with specialized training and the ability to make critical decisions in mere seconds,” he explained.
Beyond emergency response, Brigadier Al-Kaddam noted that marine rescue teams also play an important role in public education by advising sea-goers to swim in safe zones, follow safety guidelines, and avoid risky behavior, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
The Brigadier praised the professionalism of marine rescue personnel, who maintain a constant state of alert to respond swiftly to reports of distress, including drowning incidents, ship fires, and cases of individuals lost at sea. He also highlighted that the department is equipped with modern tools such as speedboats and advanced rescue equipment, enabling efficient operations.
Marine rescue efforts contribute significantly to lowering the rates of drowning and maritime accidents through rapid emergency responses, awareness campaigns, safety monitoring, and well-maintained equipment.
Regarding inter-agency collaboration, Brigadier Al-Kaddam explained that the Marine Rescue Department coordinates closely with bodies such as the General Directorate of Coast Guard and Ambulance services through a joint operations center. This facilitates real-time information sharing and efficient task allocation via wireless communication systems once an incident is reported.
Addressing seasonal challenges, the Brigadier pointed out that summer is particularly demanding due to the surge in beach activities, requiring heightened preparedness and concerted efforts from rescue teams to ensure public safety.
He stressed the critical role of public cooperation and adherence to safety regulations in supporting rescue operations.
From January 1 to July 14, the Marine Rescue Department received 813 reports involving various incidents such as mechanical failures, fires, and search and rescue missions, underscoring the ongoing demand for their vigilant and swift intervention.
Brigadier Al-Kaddam concluded by reaffirming the department’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property around the clock, underscoring the spirit of courage and selflessness that defines Kuwait’s marine rescue personnel.
