KUWAIT CITY, July 29: New conditions imposed by Ethiopia for sending domestic workers to Kuwait have sparked significant controversy, according to a report by Kuwaiti news portal Almajliss.

Ethiopian domestic worker fees spark concerns among Kuwaiti agencies.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Labour has set the recruitment price at KD120 for experienced house workers and KD110 for beginners. Additionally, Kuwaiti recruitment agencies are required to pay a commission of KD1,300.

These terms have stirred debate in Kuwait, with concerns raised about the impact on recruitment agencies and potential domestic workers. Critics argue that the high fees could lead to increased costs for Kuwaiti households seeking domestic help.

Kuwaiti recruitment agencies are particularly worried about the KD1,300 commission, which could affect their operational costs and potentially result in higher service charges for families employing Ethiopian domestic workers.

Negotiations between Kuwaiti officials and the Ethiopian Ministry of Labour are ongoing to reach a mutually agreeable solution. The outcome of these discussions will significantly impact the future flow of Ethiopian domestic workers to Kuwait.
