KUWAIT CITY, Sept 4: As part of the Ministry of Interior’s ongoing campaign to combat crime and bring offenders to justice, the Criminal Security Affairs Sector — represented by the General Department of Criminal Investigations, Capital Governorate Investigations Department — has arrested a gang of four African nationals accused of stealing money from vehicles in the Shuwaikh Industrial Area.
Authorities had recorded several reports of theft in recent weeks. Following extensive investigations and the use of advanced surveillance technology, security officials discovered that the suspects were specifically targeting bank customers in the Al-Dajeej area.
The gang allegedly tracked individuals after they withdrew money from banks, using vehicles with falsified or mismatched license plates. To further conceal their identities, the suspects frequently swapped license plates and obscured base numbers in an attempt to evade detection and mislead law enforcement.
Once investigators confirmed the suspects’ activities and identities, a specialized security team was formed to monitor the targeted bank locations. After several days of surveillance, officers successfully apprehended the four men red-handed inside their vehicle while they were stationed near a bank in the Al-Dajeej area.
The Suspects Arrested:
- Yohannes Mengiste Chali – Ethiopian national
- Ramadan Jamal Yassin – Ethiopian national
- Merit Tsegaye Demissie – Ethiopian national
- Mikias Melesi Zerfo – Ethiopian national
During interrogation, all four admitted to carrying out the thefts. Legal procedures are now underway to prepare their case for referral to the competent judicial authorities.
The Ministry of Interior reiterated its firm stance that it will continue to track down and apprehend anyone attempting to undermine public safety or disturb national security. Authorities emphasized that strict legal measures will be enforced to protect citizens and residents across Kuwait.
