KUWAIT CITY, May 3: The Embassy of India in Kuwait, in collaboration with UN-Habitat, organized a tree plantation drive under the ‘Plant for Mother’ campaign at the Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Natural Reserve on May 3, 2025.
The event was graced by H.E. Hamad Jassim Al-Habashi, Governor of Jahra; the Head of UN-Habitat and IOM in Kuwait; ambassadors from several countries; members of the media; and a diverse group from the Indian community in Kuwait. Participants planted native saplings—including Rhanterium epapposum, Calligonum comosum, and Acacia gerrardii—as a gesture of commitment to environmental preservation. In a symbolic tribute, each participant placed a placard bearing their mother’s name beside the sapling they planted. There are 350 species. A combination of these: Rhanterium epapposum, Calligonum comosum, Acacia gerrardii, Var.najdensis
The ‘Plant for Mother (Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam)’ initiative was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, on World Environment Day 2024, encouraging individuals to plant a tree in honor of their mothers. The campaign has since received overwhelming global support, with more than 1.4 billion saplings planted to date. Several world leaders have participated in this meaningful effort, either alongside the Prime Minister or independently, underscoring its international significance.
The campaign continues to inspire environmental stewardship around the world, serving as a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to safeguard the planet for future generations.
